IS MBSC RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?

MB Sports Camps were created with the young athlete in mind.  As we take all levels of players (the recreational beginner to the nationally ranked player), many parents may ask -  Is this camp right for my child?

Here are some quick facts about what our camp is.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: My son has never played tennis but wants to learn, is this the right camp for him?  (or any other sport)

A: Yes.  It is a perfect opportunity for your child to see if they will really enjoy the game.  However it also depends on the age of your child. Most of our beginners are younger in age (ages 7-13).  If your child is a beginner and is around 15 or 16 years old it may be harder to find other beginners for them to play with.  By that age most campers have had at least 1 year of experience.

Beginners TIP:  In order for your child to get the most out of camp, take them to practice their sport of choice for fun with yourself and/or friends.  Let them get a “feel” for the game.  Once she gets to camp it will make her much more comfortable than if she did not try at all.

Beginners TIP:  (GEAR- to buy or not to buy)  Not ready to make a huge investment in lacrosse, golf, tennis, etc. gear? There are local places that will rent gear to you or where you can get used gear for cheap.  Try to find a local Play It Again Sports (a used sports equipment store) or borrow from a neighbor.

Q: My daughter is only 8 years old, is she too young?

A: Absolutely not.  Thought the majority of our campers range between 13-15 years old, we have at least 30 younger campers per week (ages 8-11 years old).  Younger campers are constantly with a counselor unlike the older campers who have more freedom to walk to the cafeteria and other camper dorms on their own (counselors are always around them, but the older campers are not required to walk with a counselor).  Younger campers walk everywhere with their counselors and receive help with anything they need:  doing laundry, getting ready for bed, etc.

Q: How many weeks should my child attend camp to improve the most?

A: Regardless of how many weeks you send your child, she will absolutely improve and learn while she is with us.  We normally recommend a minimum of 2 weeks:  It gives her and the coaches enough time to get to know each other, and what she needs the most work on.  However, the longer the stay- the more chance for improvement of course.  We tell our campers-  Give us 100% and we guarantee you will improve?

We have many players that stay for 3,4 or 5 weeks as well.  However, this is a big commitment and most campers summer schedules are busy with family vacations, and other excursions.

Q: How many weeks is “too much?”

A: Your child will be the judge.  Each child is different.  I have seen 9 year olds come for 4 weeks without a problem, because they absolutely love the training.  But then there are 15 year olds who don’t have the dedication and will get bored after 1 week.  It really depends on the personality of the child.

MB Nike Sports Camps

  • ARE camps geared for all levels of players.

  • ARE sports camps.  The main focus of the camp is sports, campers will play 5-6 hours per day.

  • ARE fun & serious.   Camp is fun and so are sports.  Our coaches are trained to make sure campers have fun.  However, our camp is designed to help your child improve in their game and we take that very seriously.  Whether your child is new to the game or has been playing for years, they will be placed into the appropriate group and will be expected to take their training seriously. We tell our campers that if they give 100% they will get better.

  • ARE for the day camper and sleepover camper.  80% of our campers are sleepover, but we still have 20% that are day campers.

  • ARE fun in the evenings.  We offer a variety of paid and free activities for campers to attend in the evenings.

MB Sports Camps:

  • ARE NOT generalized sports camps where campers can play several sports throughout the day.

  • ARE NOT a sports camp where campers eat, breath, and sleep their sport of choice.  We have 5-6 hours of sports sessions per day divided into 2 sessions- morning and afternoon.  There are no evening sessions. Evenings are free and fun time to ensure our campers are getting a well rounded experience.

  • ARE NOT a typical american sleepover camp where each and every activity in the evening is mandatory for the entire camp.  Our camps have 2-4 options for activities every night.  Campers are allowed to choose which paid activities they would like to attend ahead of time with their parents.  If your child has a tendency to hang back unless instructed to attend an activity, we highly recommend that you sign him/her up for as many evening activities as possible.  We do not force our campers to attend our evening activities and because we are a sports camp, we allow them the option to “hang out” in their rooms, lounges, during their free time (7pm-10pm) if they would like.
